It is the belief of some Native cultures that pine is the "peace keeper" of the soul.It has been said that to find inner peace one need only find the pine trees and take in their aroma to feel the tranquility of God.
Each piece of pine needle art is composed of thousands of pine needles that are gathered by hand and layed out to dry. They are then par-boiled, straightened, the caps removed, and while still moist are woven one by one into coils to form a basket. The aroma of the pine will be enjoyed in your home for years to come.
I weave pine needle baskets using the coiling technique. Coiling is a slow art. It takes a long time to express an idea and to see the movement of a form realized. In such a fast paced world I take joy in working and teaching in a craft that forces one to be patient.
My baskets are exhibited and sold at the Naples ArtCrafters shows each month in "season" ( October through April) at Cambier Park. These shows are held on the second Saturday of the month.
My baskets can also be purchased at Made to Inspire in
Boca Grande, Florida and at MyxnScents in the Bayfront Shopping Plaza in Naples.
